silver mining process

How is Silver Mined APMEX®

Silver is separated from this ore using a chemical process known as smelting. To begin a new Silver mine, a system of multi-layered crosscuts are made. Each cut connects to a central shaft but is kept at a safe vertical distance to avoid collapses. Openings called raises are dug to connect each level.

Silver processing Britannica

Silver is removed by the Parkes process, which consists of adding zinc to the molten lead bullion. Zinc reacts rapidly and completely with gold and silver, forming very insoluble compounds that float to the top of the bullion. These are skimmed off and their zinc content recovered by vacuum retorting.

How silver is made - material, making, history, used ...

To recover silver from zinc-bearing ores, the Parkes process is used. In this method, the ore is heated until it becomes molten. As the mixture of metals is allowed to cool, a crust of zinc and silver forms on the surface. The crust is removed, and the metals undergo a distillation process to remove the zinc from the silver.
